Atlanta is seeing a high crime rate, police investigate

ATLANTA — Atlanta is seeing a high crime rate when it comes to gun violence. For a second time, an early morning Atlanta triple shooting left one person dead and two injured, according to police.

Around 1:30 Thursday morning, police responded to a report of gunfire in the Center Hill neighborhood on Atlanta’s northwest side. Officers arrived at the home in the 700 Block of Center Hill Avenue to find three people with gunshot wounds, police said.

This is the second triple shooting in as many nights in Atlanta, with both occurring at around the same time — sometime between 1 and 2 a.m. The other shooting took place just after 1 a.m., Wednesday in southeast Atlanta.

In the Thursday morning shooting, police found a man dead on the scene. The other two were taken to a nearby hospital for their non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the three men inside the home knew one another and had been involved in an altercation.

“Homicide detectives are investigating this as a felon killed by a private citizen,” Atlanta Police spokesman Officer Steve Avery told news outlets in an email.

No victims in either shooting incident have been identified. Police continue to investigate both incidents.
